50 Year Anniversary
Our institution began in 1971 when Grand Master Jae H. Kim moved to Boston for attending MIT. He started teaching Taekwon-do classes at local universities, and his unique teaching style quickly caught people’s attention. Enthusiastic students filled his classes. People recognized the value in Mr. Kim’s approach, which blended an analytical perspective from his studies at Western universities with insights from Taekwon-do masters in the East. This recognition led students from all over the Boston area to enroll in his classes.
Because more people wanted to join Mr. Kim’s Taekwon-do classes than the universities could handle, and with encouragement from General Choi to create a great Taekwon-do school in Boston, Mr. Kim decided to start his own school. On July 15, 1974, he founded the Jae Hun Kim Taekwon-do Institute on Brookline Avenue in Boston. Since then, the institute has thrived in that location, further attracting people of all ages and backgrounds from all over the world. Right now, the institute runs more than 40 schools across the U.S., Singapore, South Korea, Ireland, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and The Philippines.
